Green Palace, Newtown.
We love Newtown. It is a special place for my love and i, and we are always thrilled to be there as we have such cool and fun memories from when we first met. Apart from that, Newtown has awesome food, unreal vintage and second hand shops, a good music scene with lots of punky stuff happening and a handful of charming little pubs such as our favourites, The Courtyard and The Sando. Now this little restaurant could not be missed, with a dangling yellow sign in capitals reading “VEGETARIAN FOOD”, with lots of people inside, happily chomping down on their flavourful looking dishes. This place is right in the hustle and bustle of King Street amongst a menagerie of little restaurants. If you are in Newtown, please give this place a try. It was a major treat, being able to go out for dinner at a little place that caters specifically for vegetarians and vegans. I felt amazed, as there is nothing like this on the Central Coast! They have food available for take away or you can sit down and order from the menu (it is BYO if you are a drinker). We ordered the roasted duck, chicken and chilli with cashews and basil and a raw papaya salad with chilli and a serve of fresh boiled rice. We ordered way too much and did not even manage to get through half of the food which is a shame because it was DELICIOUS (not to mention our mouths were on fire from the raw papaya salad). We would have taken it home with us but we were on our way to watch a band at the Sando and didn’t want to leave it in the car for hours. I didn’t get to try the desserts, but they had some yummy sounding black sticky rice with a combination of different soy ice-creams and fruits such as durian and banana. I will be going back to this place, and i have heard of another place in Newtown which is an alternative grocery store (a place that stocks Notarella!!) and it does a vegan/vegetarian Yum Cha on Sunday’s, hopefully i can manage to visit that place soon as i am totally intrigued.
